Very deep felt interview today on EWTN. Got me thinking about my very own situation in the Canadian military. 10 years and I missed out on every possible conflict(s) during my time. I was primarily interested in the honor of combat, the uniforms/equipment and the indescribable romance that drew me into the military 79 – 89 (cold war). I wonder, did any of those injured or dead start out like me. Was I spared to one day tell a story of why we men do what we do? Why we are drawn to such physical discomforts and atrocities. Was I spared in order to stay outside the box balancing on the edge offering my prospective. I just can’t quench my thirst for all things military including the history. Old armies with pomp and gallantry. Political influences, colonization, little known details that can kill one’s childlike dream of camaraderie and valor. Is there a story here?
